9-year-old Alex Greven - a fourth-grade boy from Colorado who wrote a book for boys about how to talk to girls - now has a film deal with Fox. The Guardian notes a couple other self-help books that have gotten film deals.
The book is just the latest self-help book to be made into a film, although it is certainly one of the most unusual. Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo’s 2004 New York Times bestseller He’s Just Not That Into You has been made into a rom-com starring JennifersAniston and Connelly, Ben Affleck, Drew Barrymore and Scarlett Johansson, while Mireille Guilano’s Why French Women Don’t Get Fat: The Secret of Eating for Pleasure, is being made into a film by Hilary Swank’s 2S Films production company.
The Telegraph says the boy’s mother wasn’t even aware of her son’s book until she started getting emails from his teachers.
