The Associated Press asked the presdiential candidates what necessity they would want to have with them if they were stranded on a desert island, and at minimum a few of them said they’d take a good book. We thought the people who wanted their spouse and/or children to be stranded with them sounded beautiful selfish.

Mike Huckabee, former governor of Arkansas: “Laptop with satellite reception.”
Rep. Duncan Hunter of California: “Mrs. Hunter.”
Sen. John McCain of Arizona: “Books.”
Mitt Romney, former governor of Massachusetts: “My wife, Ann.”
Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado: “Boat.”
Democrats
Sen. Joseph Biden of Delaware: “Jill, my wife.”
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York: “A good book.”
Sen. Christopher Dodd of Connecticut: “Coffee with cream and sugar.”
John Edwards, former North Carolina senator: “A book.”
Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio: His wife, Elizabeth.
Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois: “Other than my wife and my kids, an inanimate object I would have to have would probably be a good book.”
Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico: “Blackberry and a Davidoff cigar.”
